HOTEL CORAZÓN, MALLORCA.

ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN: MOREDESIGN

CREATIVE DIRECTION: KATE BELLM & EDGAR LOPEZ

STYLE: BOHEMIAN MEDITERRANEAN

COUNTRY: SPAIN

Mallorca has no shortage of beautifully restored farmhouses, but Hotel Corazón has little interest in being just another one. Tucked between Deià and Sóller in the Tramuntana mountains, this former finca has been transformed into a wonderfully unconventional retreat by photographer Kate Bellm and artist Edgar Lopez. The result is part hotel, part creative playground, and entirely comfortable in its own rather eccentric skin.

Working with local design studio Moredesign, the historic property has been given a new lease of life without losing its Mallorcan character. Sculptural walls, curved doorways, earthy plaster and handcrafted furnishings sit alongside unexpected colours, playful details and an impressive collection of art. Nothing feels particularly concerned with following the rules, which is precisely what makes it work.

Outside, cactus gardens, olive trees and mountain views provide a suitably dramatic backdrop. The swimming pool, with its terracotta tones and decidedly cheerful loungers, adds a splash of colour to the landscape. There is also a working farm, an artist programme and a restaurant celebrating seasonal produce. One suspects that doing absolutely nothing is equally encouraged.

A LITTLE ARTISTIC REBELLION, PLENTY OF MALLORCAN SUNSHINE, AND NOT THE SLIGHTEST INTEREST IN PLAYING BY THE RULES.
